Minutes from CPOA SECONN Chapter Meeting, 30 September 2003 at the Coast Guard Academy Chief’s Mess

Secretary’s Report

 

Minutes from August meeting read. A thank you to MCPO Rud for taking the August minutes. Minutes accepted.

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

Balances as per treasurer’s report of 30 September 2003. Made about $1,300 from football game on September 27.  Report accepted.

 

President’s Report

 

-         Reviewed what happened at the CPOA Convention held in Mobile. MCPO Creighton has sent President’s written report via his bang list.  There were numerous guest speakers, and National will provide the official minutes of the Convention.

-         President’s Award for Medium Size Chapter of the Year was awarded to the Washington D.C. Chapter. Our Chapter took second place.

 

-         On a sad note, MCPO Joe White crossed the bar. MCPO Isherwood described the life and impact MCPO White had at the Academy at in the Coast Guard in general. A Memorial Service is scheduled for November 1 at the Academy Chapel. MCPO Creighton will pass this word via his bang list.

 

Special Olympics

 

-         On Columbus Day Weekend, Chowderfest is scheduled. Looking for volunteers to transport chowder and other food to deliver to Mystic on Saturday and Sunday. MCPO will make announcement via bang list.

 

-         Bowling League is going well, though there will be conflicts with homecoming and Parent’s Weekend. Alternate plans are being worked on.

 

-         Softball Tournament was rained out, but a thank you was sent to all volunteers.

 

Shirt Committee

 

Shirts Ordered, expect order in sometime next week.

 

Old Business

 

-         CPO McCarthy asked for a $100 donation from the Chapter to Juvenile Diabetes. Motion seconded, and passed.

 

-         Support for the daughter of CG member who is looking for financial support to attend the Super Bowl with her cheerleading squad. The family has offered to help at the concession stand. Will allow a jar at the concession stand to receive donated funds. Tabled further discussion of further financial support based on how much help we received.

 

 

 

New Business

 

-         CPO Epperson is asking for volunteers to man the Business Center during Homecoming and Parent’s Weekend. MCPO D’Amico will assist in finding volunteers.

 

-         Pancake breakfast on 7 October. Looking for volunteers

 

-         Coffee mug orders.

 

-         CPO Valliere made proposals on how to keep McShan Fund solvent. Some ideas include a book fair or a 50/50 raffle. Will discuss at a later date, but excellent input.

 

Good of the Order

 

-         Holiday Christmas Party

 

-         Looking for CPOA representative on MWR committee

 

-         Eagle hosting Haunted Ship. October 29 will be for CG Families only.

 

-         Elections upcoming. Get those nominations in.

 

-          Governors Island CPOA will be holding a reunion in Cape May 7-8 November.

 

-          Windjammers will not be held at the Academy this year

 

-          Introduced new Chapter Secretary, CPO Bonnie Fogell. Thank you for stepping in on short notice.

 

-          Newsletter went out. Check your bang list for a copy. If you are not on MCPO Creighton’s bang list, let him know.

 

Motion to close meeting. Motion seconded.

 

Observed a moment of silence.

 

Next meeting will be held on October 28th in the Academy’s CPO Mess.
